Wellington North

Once you reach the top of Ngauranga Gorge you’re into Wellington’s northern suburbs. A little further from the city you get more for your money and this makes the locality popular with young families and first home buyers.

Johnsonville is the central shopping area, with an undercover mall that attracts locals from northern and western suburbs. It’s also the northern hub for the Johnsonville train service, bringing many people into the city each workday.

The northern suburbs of Churton Park and Woodridge are the focus for residential expansion in Wellington City. In these areas you can purchase new or near-new homes, often at very competitive prices in comparison with what you pay for older homes, closer to downtown.

State Highway One travels north through here, so it’s easy to get on the highway and head off for a long weekend further afield. Perhaps a relaxing weekend on the Kapiti Coast, or a winter ski trip to Mt Ruapehu?
